Independent Learning

Daily schedules provide an ideal format for your child to progress at his or her own pace. Each daily lesson includes a combination of video lectures, online simulations, lab instructions, worksheets, and assessments. The entire course can be completed with or without parent involvement.

User-friendly Labs

Labs are an essential part of a high school chemistry class, but they don't have to be scary! This course includes 2 options: labs can be completed at home in your kitchen or virtually through video demonstrations. Rather than having a separate lab notebook, labs are incorporated into the course content- over 30 labs in all! Students use a combination of household materials and scientific equipment to learn about practical chemistry concepts like cooking, metal-plating, medicine, and more!

Honors Options Included

Additional assignments for students wanting an "honors" designation are included. These pages provide a greater depth of knowledge, additional content, critical thinking questions, and more complex calculations. Assignments are designed to prepare students for standardized tests such as the SAT and ACT.

Lifetime Access for the whole family!

This course includes lifetime access to the online course and homeschooling families may use it for siblings in future years at no additional cost. Each sibling will need a separate email address and you may wish to purchase a new workbook for each child. *Terms apply to a family within one household.

About the Instructor

High School Science Teacher

Anne Morgan

I'm a wife, mother, and educator. I have taught high school science in various settings- public school, individual tutoring, and homeschool co-ops- and loved (almost) every minute of it. I have a B.S. from Grove City College and an M.S. from Clemson University in Biology Education.  I have teaching certifications in Biology, Chemistry, General Science and Environmental Science. Over the past 20 years, I've not only designed courses for my own students, but for teachers and students world-wide. I've spent thousands of hours developing this online curriculum for your student. I hope it provides you with an easy-to-use format that is both rigorous and interesting for your family.

FAQ

  • How do I know if my student is ready for Chemistry?

This course is designed for upper-level high school students. Your student should have completed Algebra 1 previously. This is a math-based course and students without a solid foundation in algebra will likely struggle. If you'd like a free math pretest to determine if your child is ready for Chemistry, send an email to [email protected].

  • How will my child's work be graded?

Online unit quizzes are automatically graded and can be taken more than once. Thorough answer keys for practice problems are provided within the course so students can check their own work and calculations. Answer keys for labs and tests are provided on a password-protected website. Parents can check these or, if you'd like, you can give the password to your child so they can check their own work.

  • Do I need to print the course worksheets?

Each unit begins with a PDF file that includes all the pages your child will need for that unit. You can print these packets from home or purchase a bound workbook which will be shipped to your home (additional fees apply).

  • What kind of calculator is required for this course?

Your child will need a scientific calculator for chemistry. Beyond the typical arithmetic, it should have buttons for exponents and a "log" button.

  • What if I need help or have questions?

I encourage all families to use the Suburban Science Facebook Community during the course to discuss questions and share suggestions. Information about joining this group is included upon purchase of the course. I am also personally available to address any questions or issues that arise during your year of Chemistry. Simply email me at [email protected] and I will get back to you within a few hours. I am committed to making sure this curriculum works for your child and will do whatever I can to help.
